The home of Two Birds Brewing, affectionately called ‘The Nest’ is located in Melbourne at 136 Hall Street, Spotswood and is an easy 5 min (450m) walk from Spotswood Train Station.

The Nest is open to the public 4 days a week, and here you will find fresh beer on tap, amazing food, takeaway growlers & squealers (these are containers not grumpy kids), the full bottle range and Two Birds Brewing merchandise!

As independent brewers, having a home that is part of the local community is important to us and something we are proud to share with our flock.   The Two Birds do love to chatter as well, so when you visit, make sure you also join in on a brewery tour where you can learn more about their beers and Brewing Philosophies.

There is so much to love about The Nest, so why not drop in some time!

The Brewery

Introduction

Our state of the art brewhouse has been designed in Canada and is definitely worth a visit.  We also have our very own bottling line, tasting room and serve fantastic food.  So if you want an ‘authentic’ but relaxed brewery experience why not take flight to ‘The Nest’ and see what is on offer.  Tours and times book out quickly so hit the button below to book your place.

Brewhouse

Our brewhouse is a 2 vessel 1800L DME system, designed in Canada. It has a combined Mash/Lauter Tun and combined direct fired gas Kettle/Whirlpool. We have 4 double-sized (3600L) fermenters and 1 Bright Beer tank. If that’s all Greek to you, all you really need to know is that the equipment makes good beer, is super easy to use and most importantly, it’s shiny. Also, each fermenter holds about 12361 pots of brewery fresh beer!

Brewery Tours

Tours are limited to groups 15 people, and we run tours every Saturday at 1:00pm.

Tasting Room

Introduction

“The Nest”- Brewery and Tasting Room is the home of Two Birds Brewing. The Nest is housed in a 900 square metre warehouse, that once made beer cans back in the mid 1900’s. The facade is heritage listed and features the sign from the original owners of the site, W.G. GOETZ & SONS.

What's on Tap

Our Tasting Room features 12 taps, so you’ll be sure to find a beer or two, just for you. We pour beer in two sizes, (pots and schooners) and also offer tasting paddles, where you can choose four different beers to compare and contrast. Our current beers on tap can be found below. We also have a number of guest beers on tap – check out NowTapped for the latest listings.

Current Beers are:

  • Golden
  • Sunset
  • Taco
  • Pale
  • Hellenic Ale
  • Hellenic Ale

Hellenic Ale is a very pale, easy drinking ale with a Greek twist and is the result of a collaboration between Hellenic Hotel and Two Birds Brewing. The use of mountain tea and Zeus hops, named after the God of sky and thunder, create a herbaceous and crisp beer, that will perfectly compliment the flavours of Greek food.

  • Autumn IPA
  • Autumn IPA

Bright and crisp, like an Autumn night, our Autumn IPA puts fruity hops front and centre.

Pale with a lean malt body and brewed with AU Vic Secret, US Simcoe and Amarillo hops. Autumn IPA is smooth and delicate with the characters of juicy mango puree and passionfruit notes, and a crunch like fallen leaves.

Made for warm days and balmy nights.

Autumn IPA is part of our ongoing Seasonal range and is available on tap until end of May.

Simple malt bill: Traditional Ale, Wheat malt, Vienna, Carahell Hops: Simcoe, Vic Secret, Amarillo

  • Hop Harvest
  • Hop Harvest

It’s a brewer’s favourite time of year as the bright, golden green hops are ready to be picked. This is a once-a-year opportunity to brew with fresh “wet hops”, straight from the farm. It’s the truest expression of hops and is a rare chance to enjoy the unique character of wet hops, in all their leafy glory. The aim is to preserve the freshness of the hops, so they were flown from Tasmania, across Bass Strait and promptly put to work at The Nest, for our third Hop Harvest brewery; a day that smelt of promise and resulted in a beer that tastes like new beginnings.

For Hop Harvest 2017, we’ve brewed an India Pale Lager with one of our brewery faves, Enigma hops. It’s full of juicy white peach, wine-like and grassy hop characters. It’s complex, intriguing and bright and showcases all that Enigma and the hop harvest have to offer.

Picture yourself sitting among the hop bines, surrounded by these little clusters of joy, enjoy!

  • The Terminus – New World ESB
  • The Terminus – New World ESB

Brewed with our buddies at The Terminus Hotel for Good Beer Week, they requested an Extra Special Bitter (ESB) with Victorian ingredients, so we produced this New World style. Light copper coloured with soft caramel malt notes and a gentle sweetness from the Joe White malt from country Vic. It was fermented with an English ale yeast to showcase all of the esters – berry, rose and banana.

The Ella, Topaz hops from near Bright, contribute pineapple and apricot and a smooth, cleansing bitterness.

Surprisingly refreshing and reminiscent of sport, gardens, coffee and bars that don’t close at 1am.

  • Double Bantam
  • Double Bantam

Two Birds Bantam Session IPA was fist brewed in July 2014, as one of the first beers to come out of the Spotswood Brewery and served almost 3 years in the regular line up. To make way for a larger range of seasonal and limited release beers in 2017, Bantam Session IPA has been permanently retired from the range. Along with some loyal fans, the Brewers have also choked back their tears but have found the strength to brew a final, single batch to send it off in style. This last batch however is a big, bold, DOUBLE IPA version that’s in a whole new weight class! It’s the same copper-coloured beer but think double the tropical and fruit salad notes, double the bitterness and double the drinkability! At 8.3% and coming in at 80 IBU’s it’s one to watch, as it sure packs a punch, in every round. RIP Bantam and thank you to its supporters.

  • Slayer
  • Slayer

Dragonfruit Slayer is a kettle sour brewed with pink fleshed dragonfruit, it was soured with lactic acid bacteria in the kettle, then fermented with an ale yeast and dry-hopped. Slayer is tart, refreshing and pours with a light pink head. We used Ale, Wheat, Vienna and Oats for a clean, yet round mouthfeel. AU Cascade, US Amarillo & US Mosaic hops give a distinct fruitiness, while the dragonfruit adds juicy red berry notes. Slayer is here to slay for a limited time only.

What to Take Home

We have a high pressure filler that allows us to fill Growlers (1.89L) and Squealers (1L), which are glass vessels, so you can enjoy brewery fresh beer at home. We have special sized kegs just for this system, so the beers available for takeaway can be different to what’s on tap. Our current beers to take home can be found below.

What's Cooking

One of the most favourite past times of the Two Birds is to indulge in the amazing experience that is beer and food.

Matt Beard, our head chef, comes to us from establishments such as the Park Lane Hotel London and One O One in Knightsbridge…and Maha in Melbourne…Matts Menu is built around the philosophy of “good food to have with good beer” – we hope you enjoy it!

Functions @ The Nest
